Nissan reveals new Pulsar hatchback

By Jason K. Ang June 06,2014

Nissan will revive another nameplate from its recent history: the Pulsar. The new Pulsar will be a contender in the C-segment (compact), as a five-door hatchback.

The Pulsar will feature the longest wheelbase in the segment at 2700mm, while still checking in at 4385mm overall length. Shoulder and legroom will correspondingly be best-in-class, with rear knee room better than that of some D-segment sedans.

Nissan says that the new Pulsar will have accessible and useful technology for greater driving comfort and confidence. The brand’s Safety Shield technology, which is comprised of forward emergency braking, moving object detection (while reversing), lane departure warning and blind spot warning, will be offered as standard on at least one variant of Pulsar.

Pulsar will be powered by a 1.2-liter direct-injection turbo gasoline engine, with 114hp or a 1.5-liter diesel with 109hp and 260Nm of torque. A 189-hp 1.6-liter turbo gasoline engine will also be available by 2015. Engines will be mated to Nissan’s XTronic CVT.

Pulsar will feature LED headlamps, which produce a brighter light while using 50 percent less power, and smartphone connectivity. The Pulsar nameplate continues to be used in some countries, as a rebadged version of what we know as the Sylphy.
