Watch the Honda Jazz swallow a mountain bike and surfboard whole

By Jason K. Ang June 25,2014

One of the clever features of the Honda Jazz is the reconfigurable rear seat. Thanks to a relocated fuel tank, the space under the seat is kept free. With the use of a spring-loaded seat support, the Jazz owner can easily fold the seat down or up, to make space for different kinds of cargo. This enables the compact hatchback to rival the cargo-carrying capacity of an SUV.

The seat can fold down for long cargo, or up for a tall object. There’s also a utility mode, where the rear seat back folds down. Although that last one is common, the Jazz seat folds quite flat, making for a roomy compartment. Honda demonstrated each of the modes using a mountain bike, a surfboard, and a potted plant. Who says you need a pickup or a roof rack to carry a mountain bike or surfboard?
