Ford 1.0 EcoBoost wins International Engine of the Year award

July 10,2014

Small but powerful—Ford’s 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine, available in the Fiesta hatchback in the Philippines, has been awarded the 2014 International Engine of the Year. Judges cited its drivability, performance, economy, refinement, and technology, in giving the engine its third straight win.

The 3-cylinder engine is part of Ford’s strategy to deliver fuel-efficient engines in all of its vehicles via high-tech design. More power is extracted from a small displacement using turbocharging. In the 1.0-liter EcoBoost’s case, the engine is capable of generating up to 139 hp in the new Fiesta Red and Fiesta Black editions.

The engine also won the “Best Engine Under 1.0-liter” for the third year in a row. The awards were given at the Engine Expo 2014 in Stuttgart, Germany.

Launched in Europe in 2012 with the Ford Focus, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost is now available in a further nine vehicles: Fiesta, B-MAX, EcoSport, C-MAX and Grand C-MAX, Tourneo Connect, Tourneo Courier, Transit Connect and Transit Courier. Later this year, the all-new Mondeo will pack the 1.0-liter, the smallest engine yet for the large family car.

The engine is manufactured in Cologne, Germany; Craiova, Romania; and Chongqing, China.
