Newbies steal show in Hyundai Lateral Drift Round 2

July 22,2014

More sideways action exploded at the Mega Tent grounds in Libis, Quezon City,  for the second leg of the Hyundai Lateral Drift Championship recently, with newbies Jowil Lazaga and Adrian Jonsay, both of Team GMW, stealing the show.

Renowned drift couple Japan D1 Grand Prix drifter and racecar driver Kimihiro Obata and wife Hiromi Kajikuma pulled a surprise challenge on the 30 drift drivers from the amateur and pro divisions by changing the track layout.

The pair of drift aficionados has established global standards for the sport, pushing drifters everywhere to improve every round.

In the pro division, Lazaga astonished judges and spectators by taking the top plum. Lazaga, a veteran of slalom races, is under the tutelage of  Team GMW leader Boddie Dabasol.

Taking the next two places were Gio Rodriquez and teammate Ralph Tan, both from Team A-toy Customs.

Jonsay bagged first place in the amateur division ahead of Karr Montaner of Drive Hard Crew and Patrick Hesse of Team Drift Mob.

The Hyundai Lateral Drift Pro-Am Championship Series 2014 is powered by the Hyundai Genesis Coupe, with Saffiro Tires as official tire sponsor, Dickies Clothing as official outfitter and Aguila Glass as official auto glass sponsor.

Round 3 will be held on Aug. 23 at the Quirino Grandstand.
