Truck crash on C5 causes death, injury, and massive traffic

August 04,2014

If you’re heading southbound on C5 today, brace yourselves for doomsday-level traffic. This is the result of a major accident on C5-Kalayaan. Several persons were hurt, some were reported dead, after a truck plowed through eight vehicles on the southbound lane of Circumferential Road (C5)-Kalayaa‎n in Makati City before dawn Monday.

‎A 14-wheeler dump truck carrying sand lost its brakes and crashed into several vehicles including a six-wheeler truck, a closed van, a taxi, a sport utility vehicle, and a sedan past 4 a.m. Monday, a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (‎MMDA) Metrobase officer told INQUIRER.net in a phone interview.

Although the‎ officer, who requested anonymity for lack of authority to speak on the matter, said the MMDA could not determine yet the number of casualties in the accident.

But radio reports said one died while seven others got injured in the accident.

A Makati City Police desk officer also told INQUIRER.net over the phone that information on the casualties has not reached their office as Makati and Taguig City police and MMDA traffic personnel are still in the area to conduct investigation.

As of 6:40 a.m., traffic on C5-Kalayaan before Market! Market in Taguig City remained heavy.

The Metrobase officer said the accident would cause traffic up to the tail end of C5 in Libis, Quezon City. The mayhem may have also caused traffic to snarl on other major roads, as EDSA traffic is also not moving as of 7:50 am.
