Chevrolet PH introduces all-new Malibu midsize sedan

Chevrolet Philippines has launched the all-new Malibu sedan, in a bid to carve out a slice of the midsize market. The Malibu features a 2.4-liter inline-four gasoline engine with variable valve timing, good for 167ps and 225 Nm. The aluminum-block engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual override function. Of note is the American-sized fuel tank, with a 73-liter capacity. The car measures 4865mm long x 1855mm width, on a 2737mm wheelbase.

The Malibu promises a quiet ride with thicker glass. The dual-cockpit layout takes a page from the Corvette. Leather trim and Camaro-style gauges and blue lighting allow a bit of flair. The front seats reportedly provide good back support for better long-distance (or more likely, slow-traffic) driving comfort.

Creature comforts include keyless access with start-stop button, MyLink wireless connectivity for smartphone, and touchscreen GPS navigation.

Malibu suspension uses MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link setup at the rear. Brakes are four-wheel discs. The car rides on 225/55 R17 for the base LT variant, and 245/45 R 18 for the LTZ. The LT gets four airbags, while the LTZ adds two curtain airbags. ABS and EBD are standard, while traction control is standard on the LTZ. The power steering is the traditional hydraulic type.

Prices are P1,398,888 for the base LT, with the LTZ at P1,528,888.
