Motogp 2014 Hertz British GP

By William Herrera September 07,2014

Winning this year has been a constant for the Honda Repsol Team, as it took the top step of the podium in all grands prix so far this season. Defending champion Marc Marquez has won ten races in a row and teammate Dani Pedrosa, who took the fight to Lorenzo when the latter faltered in Brno, Czech Republic two weeks ago.

Marc Marquez, who was in outstanding form during qualifying for the British GP, was looking at getting back to his winning ways. Alongside him was Andrea Dovizioso in his Ducati, while Jorge Lorenzo takes up 3rd on board his factory Yamaha. Espargaro, Pedrosa and Rossi complete the 2nd row.

As the riders set off for the 20 lap race, on the longest track in the MotoGP calendar, Jorge Lorenzo got the jump and led the field into turn 1, followed by Marquez and Aleix Espargaro. Filtering into the series of turns that make up Maggotts and Becketts complex, Lorenzo the Yamaha rider looked determined on not relinquishing the lead. Valentino Rossi in the other Yamaha was riding like he was in a league of his own, passing Espargaro and the mighty Ducati of Dovizioso, moving him up to 3rd by lap 4. But he later fell back after making a mistake and overshooting Copse corner. Dani Pedrosa, now running in third, tried his best to keep the Doctor at bay, but with 8 laps to go, Valentino showed why he is the most experienced rider to date by taking Dani in the run up to Vale corner and back again into 3rd.

Marquez, knowing full well that he can’t let Lorenzo out his of sight, kept hounding his fellow Spaniard. One can’t help but get a feeling while watching the phenom reel in his rival, that a move will be made sooner than later. Then with 7 laps to go, Marquez dove into the right of Lorenzo, braking late after the long Hangar straight into Stowe corner, and finally taking P1. It looked like another cake walk for the 22-year old, but on lap 15, Marquez ran wide opening the door for Lorenzo to take the lead. It was not over by any means of the imagination. The fight was still on and Jorge was only too happy to oblige.

Sensing his chance with 3 laps to go, Marquez out braked Lorenzo into Village loop. Side by side, with inches separating the two riders, Marc squeezed past Jorge to the delight of the Repsol Honda team.

Lorenzo tried to fight back, but Marc was too powerful. Jorge had to settle for the runner up position, while Valentino Rossi took the last step on the podium. Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso rounded up the top five.

Marquez now leads the standings with 288 points and far behind is Dani Pedrosa on 199 points. 10 points adrift of Dani is Valentino Rossi.

The San Marino TIM Italian GP is next on the calendar. Find out if Marc and Honda continue on their winning ways. Or will Yamaha, who has yet to win a race this year, be able to break their winless season and provide the fans with all the action they crave for?
