MANILA, Philippines–John Boban of Team Drift MOB and Karr Montaner of Drive Hard Crew were the big winners in the recent Round 4 of the Hyundai Lateral Drift Series at the Megatent in Libis, Quezon City.
In the pro division, it was the man with the biggest horsepower who dominated as Boban and his 500+-horsepower Soarer, earned the nod of the judges and spectators to grab first place.
He beat Gio Rodriquez, the finalist of “Pilipinas Got Talent,” and last year’s amateur champion and Saffiro tire driver Mark Bernardo of Team GMW, who claimed his first podium finish for the year.
Montaner finished ahead of 16-year-old Peter Schroth and Patrick Ng of Team Drive Hard Crew in the hotly-contested amateur division.
The event, originally set for Saturday, had to be rescheduled to a Sunday after Metro Manila was severely affected by Tropical Storm “Mario” last Friday.
A number of drifters actually failed to make it due to the damage caused by the storm to their cars, but 21 drifter still showed up on the grid.
The drift couple of Japan D1 Grand Prix drifter and race car driver Kimihiro Obata and wife Hiromi Kajikuma once again pulled a surprise challenge on the contenders by changing the track layout.
The Hyundai Lateral Drift Pro-Am Championship Series 2014 is powered by the Hyundai Genesis Coupé, with Saffiro Tires as official tire sponsor, Dickies Clothing as official outfitter, and Aguila Glass as official auto glass sponsor.
