Vettel sees red: Formula One driver leaves Red Bull for Ferrari
Four time world drivers champion Sebastian Vettel of Infiniti-Red Bull Racing will be leaving the team from Milton-Keynes at the end of the season—this was the surprise statement announced by the Red Bull team Saturday.
Christian Horner, Team Principal of the Red Bull Formula One team, said that Ferrari made “a very attractive offer” to the German. Vettel will be replaced by Daniil Kvyat come 2015 with Daniel Ricciardo, standing as the teams number one driver. Ricciardo has been outqualiying and outscoring Vettel this season, as Sebastian struggles with the new car. A majority, if not all, F1 drivers would want to drive for the Scuderia during their careers. This made the decision to leave Red Bull for Ferrari, all that much easier for Sebastian.
Vettel’s move has further solidified the notion that Fernando Alonso would also be moving out of Ferrari by season’s end. The Spaniard still has not made it known which team he will be driving for next season, but smart money is on Alonso heading back to McLaren at Woking. Also, Kvyat’s move will open a seat in Toro Rosso, with only Max Verstappen confirmed for 2015.
Sebastian’s impending jump to Ferrari could be the stuff that might rekindle the team’s drive to get back to their winning ways. The last German driver to hand them the championship was one Michael Schumacher. Vettel now only needs to bring along to the team a Brit and a French guy to complete the core of his team and duplicate Schumacher’s feat of multiple championships for the tifosi.
