Pilipinas Taj heats up the diesel wars

October 08,2014

tata-manzaMANILA, Philippines–Make way for seven new diesel-run cars, pickups and mini-trucks to take over Philippine roads, as Pilipinas Taj Autogroup launches its heavy-duty, eco-diesel vehicles from Tata Motors.

The No. 1 automotive brand in India unveiled two sedans—the Tata Indigo Diesel and the Tata Manza Aura Diesel—at its Tata Motors Big 7 launch held at the Mega Tent Events Venue in Libis, Quezon City, last Sept. 25.

Also launched at the same event were the Tata Indica Diesel, the hatchback equivalent of the Tata Indigo, both of which are perfect for fleet service with style and comfort to boot; the Tata Vista Ignis Diesel, a diesel version of the Tata Manza; a new and improved Tata Xenon XT Diesel pickup in 4×4 and 4×2 versions; the Tata Super Ace “Big Boy,” a go-to vehicle for carrying heavy loads; and the more nimble and zippy Tata Ace “Bata.”

The Indigo Diesel is a Tata Motors bestseller because of its cost and fuel efficiency. It looks great inside and out, boasting of spacious interiors and the brand’s signature chrome accentuated smiling grille and teardrop headlamps. It is safety-oriented and family-friendly. Performance-wise, the 1.4-liter turbodiesel engine with its independent suspension offers a maneuverable and smooth ride. The hatchback Tata Indica Diesel offers the same amenities, with a sportier look.

Family of diesel variants

The Tata Manza Aura and Tata Vista Ignis join Tata’s family of diesel variants, offering similar style and dimensions as the petrol-run Manza and Vista with a cost-efficient and high-performing diesel touch. The Aura and Ignis have the same high-class brake and suspension systems, classy interiors and looks, better fuel mileage, and heavy-duty, eco-diesel performance.

The Tata Super Ace and Tata Ace mini trucks, meanwhile, are workhorses with multipurpose bodies that can easily be customized for delivery or transport of various business needs.

The Tata Ace “Bata” is the best in its category for fuel efficiency with its efficient diesel engine and load capacity of 750 kilograms. Best as a jeepney-body variant, it can confidently brave both city and rural roads because of bigger tires, high ground clearance, independent suspension system with disc brakes and drum brakes for the front and rear, respectively.

Safety is a big investment, so the Tata Ace has intrusion panels on the front doors, seat belts and a crash-tested front, roof and back. Various body configurations can be used on the Ace. It also comes with a two-year or a 36,000-kilometer warranty, thus making it a very versatile investment.

On the other hand the Tata Super Ace, alias “Big Boy,” has more power to go places with a load capacity of 1 ton. Its strong chassis, independent suspension running on a four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, and a load conscious reducing valve (LRCV) makes this Big Boy ultraversatile in fulfilling a wide range of functions for passenger carriage or delivery uses. Perfect for longer trips, the Tata Super Ace “Big Boy” can also be fitted with various rear body configurations to suit your business needs.

The Tata Xenon XT is a more empowered workhorse with enhanced looks and capabilities. The 4×4 and 4×2 variants now have a sleeker console, adjustable seating, streamlined facilities, a stronger and tougher load body, and with 147.95 horsepower, plus more low-end torque at 223 Newton-meters for power and acceleration.
