MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police has approved the delivery of P397.95 million worth of 4×4 light personnel carriers which was won by two firms which entered into a joint venture. The two firms are associated with the Alvarez auto group, which distributes BMW, Kia, and Peugeot vehicles.
A contract dated Nov. 7 was signed between the PNP and the joint venture of the Autocirculo Corp. and Columbian Autocar Corp. for the purchase of 210 units of 4×4 light personnel carriers.
The PNP initially approved a P476.4 million budget contract for the purchase, or P2.268 million per vehicle.
The joint venture, represented by a certain Augusto Camacho Jr., initially offered a bid worth P451.5 million but the supplier voluntarily reduced it to P397.95 million.
Deputy Dir. Gen. Felipe Rojas, PNP deputy chief for administration, signed a notice to proceed to the joint venture giving them the green light to deliver the vehicles.
Technical specifications for the vehicles include a diesel-powered engine and should seat at least 15 people.
Autocirculo Corpo. is the largest dealer of Eurobrands Distributor Inc., an exclusive distributor and importer of Peugeot vehicles in the country, while Columbian Autocar Corp. is the assembler and exclusive distributor of Kia vehicles. The group is also distributing India’s Mahindra brand, which is probably the supplier of the police vehicle. -With report by Julie M. Aurelio
