Subaru teases Forester STI turbocharged SUV

November 24,2014

Forester-STISubaru is set to reveal a high-performance version of the Forester SUV, as it teased images of a Forester in full STI trim. Subaru has recently offered STI-tuned versions of the XV and Legacy wagon, but these have been upgrades to the suspension to improve handling and badged tS (tuned by by STI).

The Forester STI will be a different animal, and akin to the Impreza WRX STI. Early photos have the Forester STI featuring upgraded STI-badged brakes, bigger tires, a front spoiler lip and revised suspension. The crossover is shown in the trademark blue pearl paint. The engine will probably be the 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder in the current Impreza WRX STI, good for 300 hp. Here’s hoping it will be mated to a six-speed manual as well.

This marks the return of the 2.5-liter turbocharged configuration featured in the previous Forester Turbo that was phased out in favor of the more efficient 2.0-liter turbo. The only other Forester STI was a Japan-only model available 10 years ago. The new Forester STI will likely debut in Japan, with global markets to follow.
