Volvo truck races against 1360-hp Koenigsegg One:1 megacar

volvo-koenigseggVolvo Trucks has released its latest viral-ready clip, pitting its FH eight-ton truck agains the Koenigsegg One:1, dubbed the world’s first mega-car. It’s known as the One:1 because it’s the first car that has as much horsepower as its weight in kilograms: 1360. In comparison, the McLaren F1 road car has 627 hp for its 1062kg curb weight.

The catch is that the Koenigsegg has to do two laps of the circuit, while the truck has to drive one lap. Still, it makes for an entertaining race. The fim is meant to highlight the company’s I-Shift Dual Clutch gearbox. Like similar system in sports cars and sport sedans, the dual clutch is meant to deliver seamless power though the gears. The test was run on the Knutstorp race track in southern Sweden, with a hilly terrain and tight turns.

Former F1 driver and TV presenter Tiff Needel drove the Volvo truck. He says, “The I-Shift Dual Clutch is absolutely incredible. It is particularly noticeable on slopes, the truck does not hold back – it just flows smoothly, without the gear changes being felt. When you brake, it switches down very softly and comfortably. The truck definitely has the heart of a sports car.”

Volvo Trucks’ new dual-clutch gearbox was launched in Europe last June and is available on Volvo FH with Euro-6 D13 engines at 460hp, 500hp and 540hp ratings.
