MANILA, Philippines — Motorists traveling through Quezon City should avoid roads scheduled for repair, aka the infamous “re-blocking.” The Department of Public Works and Highways’ office in the National Capital Region will conduct road re-blocking activities from 10 p.m. Friday (Nov. 28) to 5 a.m. Monday (Dec. 1) on the following major thoroughfares in Quezon City:
* Fairview Avenue from Camaro Street to Marlboro Street (third lane, southbound);
* Mindanao Avenue from Road 8 to North Avenue (first lane, southbound);
* Araneta Avenue from Calamba Street to Quezon Avenue (first lane, southbound);
* Carlos P. Garcia Avenue from D. Castañeda Street to Velasquez Street (third lane, northbound);
* Quirino Highway from Camachile Street to Teachers’ Bliss (second lane, northbound);
* Batasan Road from the Civil Service Commission area to the Department of Social Welfare and Development compound (second lane, eastbound);
* Congressional Avenue from the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue to Hereford Street, and from Sinagtala Street to Mindanao Avenue (second lane, eastbound);
* Congressional Avenue Extension from Luzon Avenue to Miranila Subdivision (third lane, westbound), and
* Aurora Boulevard from G. Baldovino Street to C-3 and Gregorio Araneta Avenue (westbound).
Earlier, the Metro Manila Development Authority announced that road works would not be allowed in the three weeks before Christmas in anticipation of a traffic buildup as people flock to malls and other shopping centers in the metropolis.
DPWH insiders, however, expressed confidence the agency would “still be allowed to do more road re-blocking activities next week.”
The MMDA plans to designate alternate routes pending clarification from the DPWH on the completion of several NCR road projects.-Jerry Esplanada
