After being voted “Car of the Year” in Europe and “World Car of the Year”, the Golf is continuing its success story with the “North American Car of the Year” award. This means that the Golf has won more than 30 awards and design prizes since its launch in 2012.
2015 is also getting off to a sensational start for Volkswagen. The Golf came out top in the annual “North American Car of the Year” awards – one of the highlights during the Detroit Motor Show. Its distinctive design, the comprehensive range of assistance, safety and infotainment systems and the unparalleled quality and value were decisive for the jury in awarding the highest car award in the USA.
The jury, consisting of 57 US-American and Canadian motor journalists, voted for the Volkswagen Golf and against the Ford Mustang with a clear majority of 256 to 204 points. “Winning the prestigious “North American Car of the Year” award and more than ten other US car prizes, including “Motor Trend Car of the Year” will further strengthen the Volkswagen brand and the whole Golf family. We hope that this will also give a further boost to sales of the Golf family. We are confident that this prize will pave the way for a successful year”, says Michael Horn, President and CEO of the Volkswagen Group of America.
It is the first time since 1999 that a Volkswagen has won the “North American Car of the Year” award as the best new vehicle in the US. 16 years ago the Beetle won this prize. European car manufacturers have only taken home the “North American Car of the Year” award five times since it was presented for the first time 22 years ago.
