MMDA gives enforcers ‘heat stroke break

March 19,2015

mmdaMANILA, Philippines — A “heat stroke break” and a cool attire are just two ways the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is trying to beat the summer heat.

Most visible are MMDA traffic enforcers who have begun wearing blue polo shirts and shorts instead of long pants since Monday, March 16.

Also, enforcers and street sweepers have been given a 30-minute “heat stroke break” from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. for them to rest and avoid the harsh effects of the sun.

Enforcers will alternately man their posts to avail of the break.

Free bottled waters would also be distributed to MMDA officers.

The constables will wear summer outfits until May 31.

MMDA said the measures have been undertaken to prevent a repeat of an incident in 2012 when an on-duty enforcer died of heat stroke. -Nestor Corrales
