Starting as a maker of premium sedans and coupes, BMW has spread its automotive footprint to nearly every segment of the market.

Now, it launches its first multipurpose vehicle (MPV) at the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), running from April 9 to 12 at the World Trade Center.

Called the 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW’s new MPV aims to bring a new level of premium driving experience as well as exceptional driving characteristics to the segment.

4,342 mm x 1800 mm, the 2 Series Active Tourer packs a roomy interior for five. Thanks to a long 2,670-mm wheelbase and a tall roofline, there’s more than enough space for a family and their gear.

The 2 Series Active Tourer carries the trademark BMW styling cues such as the four-headlamp front, L-shaped rear lights and twin-kidney grille.

The front headlamps use LED lighting units for brighter and more efficient illumination. Vertical aeroblades and rear spoiler lend a touch of sportiness to the MPV.

The twin-turbo engine is mated to an automatic transmission. The 2 Series can accelerate to 100 kilometers per hour in 9.2 seconds, on to a 210 kph top speed.

The engine incorporates BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology, including automatic start-stop, coasting function and brake energy regeneration.

Low rolling resistance tires and friction-reduced wheel bearings help improve efficiency further.

The 2 Series Active Tourer allows the driver to choose from Eco Pro, Sport or Comfort mode to suit conditions.

“The BMW 2 Series Active Tourer represents a number of milestones for BMW in the country and across the globe,” said Asian Carmakers Corp. president Maricar Parco. “With the launch of this new vehicle, we are not only engaging an exciting new market, but also introducing several innovations that have never been seen in the BMW portfolio before.”
