Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) 2015, running until April 12 at the World Trade Center in Pasay City, marks its 11th year of showcasing the best of the Philippine automotive industry. With this year’s theme “Outdoor Mobility,” MIAS features even more activities and eye candy, as well as the latest car models for the discerning buyer. Here are 15 reasons to visit MIAS 2015.
The world-class displays-MIAS 2015 features massive, world-class displays from 15 exhibitors. These showcase their latest models in the best possible way, allowing visitors to test their features and compare specifications, all within one venue.
Russ Swift-the world’s foremost precision driver returns to entertain the MIAS crowd with his trademark J-turn, two-second parallel parking maneuver, and car dance routine. Using Subaru’s powerful machines, Russ Swift sets the standard for jaw-dropping automotive spectacle.
The outdoor driving area-Subaru and Jeep demonstrate the superb all-terrain capability of their SUVs and crossovers. Subaru will put their XV, Forester, and all-new Outback through their paces, with their symmetrical all-wheel drive systems pushed to the limit. Some models will also use the X-mode control for better traction. Jeep shows why it’s still the standard for off-roaders, with the superb maneuverability and wheel articulation of its Grand Cherokee and Wrangler SUVs.
Child safety area- Volkswagen is helping to look after the safety of the next generation with its child safety initiative. Featuring an interactive driving course within its booth, complete with traffic lights and stop signs, the VW child safety area aims to teach driving skills to toddlers and elementary kids. Tuason Racing school will also conduct its invaluable Road Safety seminars at MIAS.
The SUVs-Ford is previewing the all-new Everest SUV. With a rugged new design and sophisticated electronically-controlled all-wheel drive system, the new Everest is designed to tackle the great outdoors with ease. For those who need the space, the new Expedition debuts with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine and continuously controlled damping suspension. Chevrolet is previewing the all-new Trax compact SUV, designed for versatility from city to rough-road driving. Chevy is also launching four new variants of its best-selling Trailblazer. Kia is showcasing its all-new Sorento SUV, with diesel power and sophisticated new styling.
The wagons-The wagon category gets a big boost from the sleek all-new Mazda6 wagon. Promising the sharp driving feel and fuel efficiency of the Mazda6 sedan with the added load space made possible by the wagon configuration. Subaru launched the new Outback, with a more premium feel and responsive driving.
The MPVs-BMW is entering the premium multi-purpose vehicle category with the all-new 2 Series Active Tourer. Featuring a relatively roomy interior within a compact footprint, the 2 Series Active Tourer reportedly retains the driving feel of a true BMW. For families who need a lot of space, Kia has launched its Grand Carnival MPV, with a fold-flat third row and collapsible second-row captains chairs. Best of all, the Grand Carnival is diesel powered.
The sedans –Tata’s Indigo Diesel promises a spacious interior and efficient 1.4-liter turbodiesel engine, making it ideal for fleet and taxi use. The BYD Qin is a plug-in hybrid compact sedan with an all-electric range of 70 kilometres and a hybrid electric power train that can extend the car’s total range to a distance similar to that of a conventional gasoline-powered vehicle. Mazda2 brings the Skyactiv fuel-efficiency technology packed within a stylish subcompact.
The hot hatches- Mini Cooper launches a family-friendly five-door edition. With more space and easier ingress than the traditional hatchback, the five-door aims to provide sporty family transport. Another smoking hot car is the Golf GTI, with a satisfying turbocharged gasoline engine and the comfort and space of a C-segment hatchback. The Tata Indica diesel offers turbocharged diesel power, with a sportier look than its sedan sibling.
Sports cars and exotics-Two icons make their public debut at MIAS. Mazda MX-5, the world’s best selling sports car, stays true to the formula of lightweight, responsive chassis for two passengers. Its stunning redesign is practically glowing red in the Mazda booth’s spotlight. Ford is showcasing the all-new Mustang, now with independent rear suspension as well as that growling V8 engine. Motul is displaying a rare Lamborghini Super Trofeo exotic sports car.
The pickups-Mitsubishi is displaying the all-new Strada pickup, now with more features and a bigger cargo bed. Tata features the Xenon pickup, India’s workhorse vehicle. Foton is showing off the Thunder pickup, available with an off-road package.
The test drives-You don’t have be content with just looking at the cars at MIAS. You can test drive many of them at the venue, and experience their performance and features before deciding which to buy.
The aftermarket and event tents-Parts and accessories to dress up and tune your car are available from the exhibitors at the two MIAS aftermarket tents. Singapore Grand Prix is highlighting its ticket packages for this year’s Grand Prix race.
The custom cars-More than 100 cars are the MIAS Classic and Custom Car Competition area, from stunning 1950s exotics to modern masterpieces like a faithful replica of Han’s car from Fast & Furious. A Knight Rider KITT Pontiac is at the main entrance. The one-of-a-kind Jeepney Popemobile is also at the MIAS main entrance.
