2016-Chevrolet-Camaro-SS-002Chevrolet has revealed the all-new Camaro coupe, as the company aims to retain its lead in the sporty car segment. The sixth-generation Camaro features a wide range of engines, from a 2.0-liter to a 3.6-liter V6. Then there’s 6.2-liter V8 with 455 hp and 617 Nm in the most powerful Camaro SS ever. The engines are mated to a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic.

2016-Chevrolet-Camaro-SS-005The new Camaro has a smaller footprint and is lighter than the outgoing model by some 90kg, and has a reportedly stiffer platform. Aluminum is used for the front and rear suspension links. Magnetic Ride Control active suspension will be available. The drive mode selector can adjust the car for: snow/ice, touring, sport and, on the SS models, track driving. The Camaro SS can deliver better lap times than the outgoing track model, the Camaro 1LE. Brembo brakes are available on all models, and are standard on the SS. Goodyear is the exclusive original equipment supplier, with 20-inch Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 mounted on the SS.

2016-Chevrolet-Camaro-020The interior features a flat-bottom steering wheel, shifter-focused center console, and reportedly better materials all around. The aircon vents have control rings for temperature and fan speed adjustment instead of the usual buttons.

The base 2.0-liter four-cylidner turbo delivers 275hp for a sub 6-second 0-100kph time. The upgrade engine is a 3.6-liter V6 with 335hp. The 6.2-liter V8 debuted in the Corvette Stingray and is the centerpiece of the Camaro SS.

The Camaro has outsold its archrival, the Ford Mustang, for the past five years.
