Cars we can’t have: Subaru BRZ tuned by STI

By Jason K. Ang July 02,2015

subaru-brz-st-6The boxer-engine, rear-wheel drive Subaru BRZ in standard form is already one of the best-handling cars around, but it doesn’t mean that the folks at Subaru Tecnica International (STI) can’t make it better. STI has just announced the Subaru BRZ tS. In line with the tuned by STI branding, the improvements are to the car’s suspension and appearance. The upgrade kit includes Brembo vented discs with four pistons up front and two pistons for the rears,18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, lateral link with pilloy-ball bush, STI inverted strut front and rear dampers and coil springs, the “flexible draw stiffener” that links the underside of the floor to the side frame, and the flexible V-shaped

The driver will sit on Recaro-designed front buckets trimmed in black leather and Alcantara with red stitching, and will grip the STI-deisgned steering wheel and gear shift knob. The engine start button, side vents, door trim, side sill plate, and instruments will all feature STI-specific trim and branding.

Those hoping for more power from the naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter boxer engine, or even a turbocharger, will be left wanting, as there are no modifications to the engine. The Subaru BRZ tS will be limited to 300 units for Japan only, and all must be ordered by October 12, 2015. 100 of those cars will be in the eye-searing “Sunrise Yellow” color. The BRZ tS will retain for 3,990,000 yen (around PHP1,465,000) for the MT and 4,071,000 yen (around P1,495,000) for the AT. Another reason to contemplate moving to Japan.
