A woman believed to be a call center employee was hurt when she was hit by a speeding passenger van along Ayala Avenue, Makati City, early Wednesday morning.
The victim, in her mid-20s to early 30s, was not immediately identified. But concerned citizens who looked into her cellphone said she had the number of “AGSP” or “Aegis People Support” on her directory.
The accident which occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 5:45 a.m. was about 200 meters from the offices of the Aegis People Support at the corner of Buendia and Ayala Avenue. The building now holds the offices of Teleperformance.
Aegis and Teleperfomance are business process outsourcing companies, commonly called ‘call centers.’
The driver of the passenger van said he was cruising along Ayala Avenue toward the intersection of H.V. dela Costa Street at about 5:30 a.m. when the woman darted into the path of his vehicle.
She was crossing on a pedestrian lane between the buildings of LKG and Standard Chartered Bank when hit by the van, an AUV with plate number FJH 880 plying the Pasig-Ayala route.
“Hindi man lang siya lumingon. Basta na lang tumakbo,” (She did not even look. She just ran across) said driver Percival Bugarin, a native of Isabela province, and a resident of Kapitolyo, Pasig City.
Bugarin said he was doing 40 to 50 kilometers per hour when he hit the woman, who was thrown some 10 meters away.
The victim, who was bloodied on the right side of her head, lay half-conscious on the rain-drenched asphalt road for 15 to 20 minutes before an MMDA rescue team arrived from its base in Orense, also in Makati.
The accident took place some 100 meters from Makati Medical Center, where the MMDA crew rushed her after the rescue. CB
