MotoGP 2015 Czech Republic Grand Prix: Lorenzo dominates Brno

August 20,2015

motogp-czechJorge Lorenzo came to the Czech Republic nine points adrift of teammate and championship leader Valentino Rossi. With the recent resurgence of Marc Marquez by way of back-to-back wins in Germany and in the United States, the Spaniard took to the track with one thing on his mind: to annihilate the competition!

Lorenzo, on board the Movistar Yamaha, came into Automotodrom Brno and decimated the qualifying lap record held by Cal Crutchlow since 2013. Similarly, Marquez eclipsed the lap record of Crutchlow, but Lorenzo just had a little more power to vault past the defending champion to take his 5th pole of the season. Marquez had to settle for 2nd place on the grid, while Valentino Rossi locked up the front row. This was the perfect front row that everyopne was hoping to see: champions all, battling it out to get the win at the iconic Brno circuit. Unfortunately, Vale had a slow start and by the first corner was relegated to P5. It was not the start fans were expecting from the multiple world champion.

Out in front, Lorenzo and Marquez were running away from the field, posting almost similar lap times and even extending their lead by 1.5 seconds to the rest of the pack. Rossi knew fully well that he had to keep Lorenzo within his sights if he wanted to maintain his championship lead.

Vale, in just over a lap, overcame his dreadful start, but with the time he took to climb back up to P3, both Lorenzo and Marquez were so far ahead that the three-way battle fans were expecting didn’t materialize. It was now down to a 2 way battle for the top spot on the podium.

motogp-czech-2Jorge Lorenzo, riding like a man possessed, never looked back and kept Marquez, who was not much of a threat, at bay. Lorenzo rode like the bike was on rails. He was nearly flawless, and, even when he had a slight backend twitch midway into the race, the two-time champion held it together and continued on like nothing happened.

This Czech GP was all about Lorenzo, he was just unstoppable. Simply put, Jorge rode like the champion that he is. Nothing could derail him in his assault on the championship standings. He was just that good.

Jorge Lorenzo took the flag four seconds ahead of Marquez in the Repsol Honda. Valentino Rossi took an additional 10 seconds to cross the line, and with it took the corresponding 16 points for third place. This meant that Jorge and Vale are now tied in the standings with 211 points each, but by virtue of his 5 wins to to Rossi’s 3, Jorge Lorenzo is now the new Championship leader.
