The subcompact crossover category is about to become much more interesting, as Mazda Philippines is set to launch next year the CX-3. The CX-3 carries the brand’s Kodo: Soul of Motion styling, which suits the small SUV quite well. It may just have the best styling details of any of Mazda’s current lineup.
Initial indications are that it will pack the 2.0-liter gasoline engine, good for 146hp, paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode. Mazda’s Skyactiv high-compression gasoline engine will help fuel efficiency. All-wheel drive may be available.
During its international launch, Mazda said that the CX-3 offers all the essentials of the automobile in a package that takes into account ease of use. Specifically, the car is meant to be a performance hatchback with the space and versatility of an SUV.
The US-market Mazda CX-3 will carry a full suite of electronic safety assist features, such as radar cruise control, smart brake support, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring and adaptive front lighting system.
Despite its diminutive exterior dimensions, the CX-3 has a roomy interior, with adequate rear-seat kneeroom. Interior materials on the display unit in Mazda’s Hiroshima center were a mix of black and white leather for the seats, with metallic and leather trim on the door panels and dashboard. Simply put, the quality and appearance are beyond any in its category. Here’s hoping that those specifications—and that luscious interior—make it intact to the Philippine models.
