Porsche, Audi electrify Frankfurt with new concept cars
Frakfurt, Germany-Porsche and Audi are leading the charge of the Volkswagen group into electric mobility. Porsche introduced the Mission E electric sports-car concept, while Audi showcased the e-tron quattro concept.
The Mission E is the first all-electrically powered four-seat sports car for Porsche. Key to the Mission E’s potential as an everyday sports car is its quick recharging time of 15 minutes to 80 percent capacity, made possible by an 800-volt driving system. The four-door sports car packs over 600hp, good for acceleration to 100kph in under 3.5 seconds, and from 0-200kph in under 12 seconds. Driving range is designed to be over 500 km.
The Mission E features a four-seat interior, accessible via the two counter-opening doors, without a B-pillar. Instruments are operated via eye-tracking and gesture control.
Porsche already has three plug-in hybrids in its lineup, the Cayenne S E-Hybrid, Panamera S E-Hybrid, and the 918 Spyder.
Audi revealed the e-tron quattro concept, an electric SUV also with range of more than 500 km. The e-tron uses three electric motors: one for the front axle and two for the rear wheels. The e-tron will have 496 hp and over 800 Nm on tap. The e-tron quattro uses lithium-ion batteries that can be recharged to full in around 50 minutes. A solar panel on the roof provides additional power and extends the car’s range.
