Select Isuzu dealerships like the one in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, will display all sorts of trucks that match any business requirements.

You probably think nothing of them or sometimes wish they were not on the road with you since they’re slowing traffic flow and occupying lots of road space. But did you know that the economy relies so heavily on trucks that without them various industries will grind to a halt?

Like anywhere else, trucks drive this country’s economy by enabling various businesses to transport their goods and services across cities and towns. Industries are able to get their raw materials thanks to heavy duty trucks that get them from the source and haul them to wherever they will be processed.

Thanks to trucks supporting these businesses, local and nationwide economies boom and flourish.

Unfortunately, trucks have been put in a bad light by a number of events that involved them in road accidents as well as issues about their environmental impacts. This is perhaps due to a number of truck buyers that decided several years ago to only consider the price tag and set aside the overall state of the vehicle and its components or new engine technologies that could improve performance, fuel efficiency, reliability, and resale value.

Interestingly, this time around, truck buyers are reconsidering especially now that the government is now looking at the age of trucks as well as their road worthiness. Moreover, truck buyers are now appreciating that the price difference of secondhand and brand-new trucks are no longer that significant.

“The Isuzu Truck Fest is our answer to the growing need for top quality trucks and buses. Compared to only three or four years ago, the sales figure of brand-new trucks has more than doubled, and the growth is expected to continue. Region 4 has been a major contributor to this growth, with Batangas cornering about 17 percent of IPC truck sales so far this year,” Isuzu Philippines Corp. (IPC) president Hajime Koso reported during the opening of the 4th edition of the event, held at the Isuzu Batangas dealership.

From Sept. 21 to 26, the Gencars Inc.-operated dealership will present seven samples of truck units ranging from light to medium-duty trucks. Displayed are the NHR with iVAN body designed for school and shuttle service; the NKR71 equipped with aluminum delivery van; drop side body configurations of NKR71 and NQR71; FVR cab and chassis; and EXZ tractor head.

Meanwhile, Isuzu Batangas GM William Abril expresses his optimism in hosting the truck display. “We have always been supportive of our truck fest event which we usually participate in Manila. Now, we are the ones hosting the event and we appreciate this opportunity. We are positive that through this event, our truck sales will have a significant increase this year.”

Exceeding target sales

IPC marketing head Joseph Bautista is even happy to report that so far the company is exceeding its target sales. “This is why the dealerships sponsoring the Truck Fest have invited all the businesses, big and small, to come and view these trucks. After Batangas, the Isuzu Truck Fest will travel to Isuzu Cagayan de Oro on Oct. 5 to 9. During the display, all registered customers have the chance to enjoy cash discounts plus P10,000 worth of parts coupons and free LTO registration when they make their actual purchase.”

Koso reported that since Truck Fest’s opening in Manila, IPC has already sold more than a hundred units of trucks. “Although most of which are fleet, we are happy that there are small business owners who are starting to buy brand-new trucks—most of them are currently operating their business with a second-hand truck. This is really what we want to happen, to encourage them to buy brand new and see its advantages.”

Koso explained that beyond the trucks that IPC offers, what the company cannot display or detail in a brochure is the long history of the brand in the Philippines. “Isuzu presence in the country spans more than half a century, helping move the nation to rise. It is the assurance that your business can rely on the durability of your Isuzu truck; and that whatever challenges you may have in your operations, your Isuzu truck will always get you through. It is the knowledge that through the years, Isuzu has been your responsible partner, and will remain to be in the coming years. I am talking about trust and I believe that our customers understand and recognize this, because they themselves have built their respective businesses on the same trust and confidence of their respective clients.”
