Breakfast treat features Mercedes-Benz AMG models

By Alvin Uy October 20,2015

IT WAS quite unusual for a local automotive company to conduct events during breakfast time, and in an unprecedented move, Auto Nation Group (ANG), the country’s distributor for Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the country did just that.

Last Oct. 4, ANG unveiled the much-awaited Mercedes-AMG GT S sports car and other AMG models to select VIP guests and members of the motoring media at the Mercedes-Benz Greenhills showroom along Edsa.  Other models that were showcased included the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG, Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 Orange Art Edition, Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 and the Mercedes-AMG G 63.  The event also invited current Mercedes-Benz AMG owners to register to the AMG Private Lounge global online community.

The breakfast idea paid off; the event turned out to be very well attended. The invitation’s call time was 8:30 a.m. but seats were full as early as 8 a.m. As it turns out, most of the car enthusiasts and aficionados bring out their beloved sports cars early Sunday mornings for their “fun runs.” Just like star athletes, the traffic-free open roads give the owners an opportunity for them to give these powerful sports cars the cardio exercise they need to keep their cars in shape. One can see these beautiful sports cars parked on cafés and coffee shops early morning in BGC’s Burgos Circle or traveling in convoys along SLEx on Sundays and holidays.

Present at the event were ANG bosses Felix Ang and Greg Yu as well as the newly installed CATS Motors president Rene Nunez. It can be recalled that CATS Motors was recently transformed into a Mercedes-Benz dealership and parent company ANG would be the holding company to handle the distribution of Mercedes-Benz in the country.

The Mercedes-AMG GT S is Formula One’s official safety car and made its first appearance at the 2015 Australian Grand Prix. Powered by a 4-liter biturbo engine, it packs a maximum of 510 horsepower reaching 100 kilometers per hour from zero in just 3.8 seconds, and is the second sports car that was developed by Mercedes-AMG entirely in-house.  Another superstar during the event was the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 AMG 4Matic Coupé, which had its on-screen debut at the recent Hollywood blockbuster film “Jurassic World.”

The Mercedes-AMG GT S recently received the US car magazine Motor Trend’s “Best Driver’s Car” award.  This year, it was lined up against nine other sports cars at the Laguna Seca racetrack in California and it also bested the other sports cars with the fastest lap time. With a lap time of 1:35.57 minutes, the Mercedes-AMG GT S not only kept all its competitors at bay at the legendary Laguna Seca racetrack, it also achieved one of the top three times ever recorded. The Motor Trend “Best Driver’s Car” award started in 2009, and is considered as one of the most prestigious contests in the American auto media.
