SUBARU’S all-new Outback ushers in a new level of performance for a crossover SUV.

MOTOR Image Pilipinas (MIP), the official distributor of Subaru vehicles in the Philippines, recently announced the introduction of a new four-cylinder variant of the Subaru Outback.

Called the Subaru Outback 2.5i-S, the smaller engine has an improved mid- to low-range torque designed to have more power on tap with a 235 Newton-meters of maximum torque at the lower 4,000-revolution-per-minute range.

Its distinctive crossover look comes with a bold and rugged body shape, while its muscular fenders match well with bigger tires than the previous generation model.

The Subaru Outback’s unique crossover platform offers a combination of the comfort of a sedan but with the cargo room of an SUV.

The all-new Outback, together with the all-new Legacy, was launched at the Manila International Auto Show 2015 last April, but it initially came with a 3.6-liter six-cylinder 24-valve boxer-engine variant, ushering a new level of performance, responsive handling, and luxurious sedan-like passenger-car comfort.

With a higher 213-millimeter ground clearance, the Outback is designed to traverse on uneven roads and steep inclines without sacrificing passenger comfort and onroad handling.

The new generation Outback features a revamped chassis, steering, suspension and brakes, and comes with an enhanced offroad performance, thanks to its symmetrical AWD system and X-Mode feature.

Available on the four-cylinder and six-cylinder variants, the X-Mode feature allows the Outback to have a better driving performance on poor roads by optimizing the integrated control of engine, four-wheel-drive, braking and other functions on slippery surfaces.

While developing the latest-generation Outback, Subaru made further refinements to deliver a crossover with class-leading performance and improved AWD handling capabilities which Subaru vehicles are known for.

Considered as Subaru’s flagship model, the six-cylinder engine continues to be available to complement the more affordable four-cylinder 2.5i-S model.

Its horizontally-opposed, four-cylinder, four-stroke, DOHC 16-valve boxer engine delivers a maximum output of 172.60 HP/5,800 rpm.

Compared to the bigger engine sibling, the 3.6-liter engine variant has a torque of 350 Nm/4,400 rpm and a maximum output of 256.44 HP/6,000 rpm.

The Subaru Outback 2.5i-S variant is priced at P2.068 million with an introductory discount of less P100,000 for the first 50 customers.
