A CAR theft suspect who escaped from a Caloocan City police station in 2013 was killed in a “shootout” with law enforcers early Tuesday. Police identified the slain fugitive as Berlin del Rosario, 22, of Barangay 186, Caloocan, who had two standing arrest warrants for car theft.
Supt. Danilo Macerin, chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region, said Del Rosario “chose to shoot it out with law enforcers” who were out to serve the warrants around 2:30 a.m. on Sto. Niño Street, Barangay 186, Tala, Caloocan.
Also arrested in the operation were his three suspected accomplices: Benjielito Dimaano Santos, 38; Ronnie Caberto Santos, 48, and Rollie Junio Magano, 51. Confiscated from the group were a grenade, a .38-cal. revolver, an improvised .22-cal. semiautomatic pistol, a pen gun and assorted rounds of ammunition. Also recovered were four motorcycles, two of them in the process of being dismantled. –Jaymee T. Gamil
