THE IMPREZA five-door concept model: dynamically sporty feel and solid performance functions

FUJI Heavy Industries Ltd. (FHI), the manufacturer of Subaru brand of vehicles, unveiled two new concept cars during the 44th Tokyo Motor Show 2015 last month.

Among the products that premiered include the Subaru Viziv Future Concept, an SUV-type concept model embodying the future vision of the company—one that achieves a higher level of aerodynamic performance while blending form with function.

Along with a package of design features that motivate the owner to get out and get active, this car gives a look at next-generation technologies that will further enhance the reputation of Subaru for “enjoyment and peace of mind” in driving.

Among them are the automatic driving technology resulting from the ongoing evolution of EyeSight, and the power unit that combines a downsized turbo engine with a hybrid system.

Next Impreza

The second highlight is the Impreza five-door concept model that takes its inspiration from the design of the next-generation Impreza envisaged in FHI’s midterm management vision “Prominence 2020 (announced in May 2014).

Adopting the “Dynamic & Solid” theme as core, the design of this concept model, according to the company, expresses value exceeding its class, from the dynamically sporty feel that heightens the anticipation of driving to the solid performance functions that heighten the sense of innovation and peace of mind.

Limited S207

Another highlight of the Subaru display during the motor show is the limited edition 2016 Subaru WRX STI dubbed the S207.

Limited to just 400 units, the S207 commemorates Subaru’s victory in the SP3T class in the 2015 Nürburgring 24-Hour Race. The Subaru Tecnica International (STI), the motorsports division of Subaru, informed that it will also offer only 200 examples of the 2016 Subaru WRX STI with the NBR Challenge Package, which features an exclusive dry carbon rear spoiler and a special NBR ornament.

The S207 will come with exclusive STI engine and suspension tuning as well as distinctive interior and exterior design upgrades. Under the hood, the S207 will be powered by a 2-liter turbocharged boxer engine that churns out a maximum 323 horsepower.

The high-output balanced engine also gets internal upgrades that include an exclusive engine control unit (ECU), twin scroll ball bearing turbocharger, performance muffler with lowered back pressure (featuring STI logo) mated to an exclusive rear exhaust pipe and STI-designed strengthened silicon intake duct.

Inside, the S207 will come standard with exclusive STI-spec Recaro bucket seats embossed with the STI logo and customized sports instruments.

The S207 will be available in three colors: WR blue pearl, crystal white pearl, and crystal black silica while a 100-unit only come with an “NBR Challenge Package Yellow Edition” color with a sunrise yellow exterior accent. Charles E. Buban
