ANDRES Calma, son of Philippine basketball legend Hector Calma, cemented his place in a different sport when he was declared champion of this year’s edition of the Toyota Vios Cup (Season 2) One Make Race.

Calma received a brand new manual Vios 1.5G, one of the biggest prize in local motorsports, for his feat.

Besting 26 other drivers in the highly competitive Sporting class, Calma of Toyota Alabang Motorsports collected a total of 182 points, 29 ahead of runner up Allan Uy of Toyota Quezon Avenue, who got a total of 153 points.

Overall second placer Uy got P400,000 while overall third placer Daniel Miranda received P200,000.

Miranda of Toyota Balintawak finished with 136 points while Toyota Alabang’s Estefano Rivera (120 points) and Toyota Otis’ Basti Escalante (90 points) completed the top 5 finishers.

The last two races (7th and 8th legs) were held at the Subic Bay International Airport last Nov. 28 and 29.

In the Promotional class, Miguel Diaz finished ahead of 25 other competitors after earning 140 points. He was followed by Paolo Rodriguez with 136 and Lord Seno with 122. Completing the top 5 finishers were Miko Maristela (96 points) and Oscar Suarez (92 points).

Celebrity Class

In the Celebrity class, Eat Bulaga host Sam YG dominated the pack with 226 points, 19 points ahead of Phoemela Baranda (207 points).

Jinno Rufino finished third with 164 points while Derek Ramsey finished in fourth with 108 points. Completing the top 5 overall is Joyce Pring with 91 points.

During the awarding, Toyota Motor Philippines’ Michinobu Sugata said that the Subic Bay International Airport leg proved to be a heart-stopping season finale with heated battles on each grid amongst rival racers.

“This leg of the Vios Cup was definitely more waku-doki than ever as competition was tighter and the race scorings even closer,” he said.

Race 7 of the Sporting class took off at the Subic runway with high-octane action as Allan Uy of Team TQA finished first place followed by Daniel Miranda (TBK Obengers) and Raymond Ronquillo (TOT Obengers). The succeeding race for the Sporting Class [Race 8], however, told a different story with Carlos Loinaz of TBC Barako Racing beating both Basti Escalante (TOT Obengers) and Allan Uy (Team TQA) to the finish.

The Promotional Class delivered the same electrifying atmosphere as the Cebuano favorite, Lord Seno (Team Toyota Cebu), floored his way to first place for both Race 7 and 8.

Miko Maristela, representing Team TQA, pushed Seno to the limit before settling for second place. Newcomer Kiko Dysico of TCC Mekeni Racing himself wowed the crowd with a third place showing for Race 7 while Danilo Cruz of TDG Team Biskeg came in third place in Race 8 of the Promotional Class.

Sam YG finished at the top spot for both heats in the Celebrity Class. It was also an intense wheel-to-wheel battle between Phoemela Baranda and Jinno Rufino as both racers chased each other down for top spot.

The 2015 Vios Cup was held in partnership with Bridgestone and Rota, supported by Motul, TRD, Brembo, Denso, AVT, OMP and Tuason Racing.
