Honda calls on Corporate Accounts for its Fuel Eco Campaign

October 13,2010

Here’s some news from Honda: In its drive to leave blue skies for the children, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) recently partnered with its corporate fleet accounts to promote the importance of turning fuel efficient driving into a habit. Considering the number of vehicles being managed by these organizations, simple adjustment on driving habits does make a lot of difference in extending fuel mileage. With unstable fuel prices, depleting fuel supply and excessive carbon dioxide emissions, any corrective measures or any form of savings are necessary and must be put into action.

Last September 25, Honda gathered 14 fleet accounts to take part of its fuel efficiency driving competition called Honda Challenge Cup. Staged on a regular basis, Honda Challenge Cup aims to promote fuel economy awareness among different members of society by sharing practical driving methods applicable in day-to-day setting. In doing so, the competition posed various challenges in both city and highway driving conditions using normal driving style and with a running airconditioning system. Honda provided its clean, green, driving machines namely City, Jazz, Civic, CR-V and Accord and loaded these vehicles with Petron XCS gasoline.

Joining Honda’s advocacy are Sanofi Aventis, Wyeth, Astra Zeneca, Avon, Digitel, Globe Telecom, Sun Cellular, ABS-CBN, GMA Network, San Miguel, Petron, Meralco, Philippine Business for the Environment and Clean Air Initiative.

Applying the basic formula in fuel optimization, VEHICLE plus DRIVER plus FUEL equals FUEL ECONOMY, these fleet accounts accomplished amazing results. Driving 1.5 Jazz A/T, Edwin Ancheta and Noel Tadiwan of Team Digitel achieved 19.18 km/li. Rene Pineda and Dan Barameda of Team PBE registered 18.17 km/li using 1.3 City A/T. Meanwhile, Rommel Fajardo and Cesar Palmaria of Team Meralco posted 16.02 km/li using 1.5 City A/T. Noel Carpio and Rolan Rebagay of Team ABS-CBN achieved 16.91 km/li with 1.3 Jazz A/T. Mitch Felicitas of Team San Miguel registered 16.87 km/li using 1.8 Civic A/T. Mitch Minano and Jason Carpio of Globe Telecomm achieved 13.49 km/li with 3.5 Accord A/T. As for the CR-V categories, Reginald Madarang and Janice de Leon of Team Petron registered 15.73 km/li using the 2.0 liter A/T variant while Dindo Nacpil and Ramonito Ramirez of Team Astra Zenica posted 12.72 km/li with the 2.4 liter A/T variant.

“We all had fun proving to ourselves that we can help the world realize blue skies for our children. The Honda Accord we’ve driven, even with a 3.5 V6 i-VTEC engine, has proven to be fuel-efficient – much to our surprise.” said Elvis Ancheta of GMA Network.

Since 1996, Honda has pioneered staging of fuel economy runs in the local industry. Honda has taken proactive measures in calling on everyone to get the most out of fuel, DRIVE EVERY DROP and reduce emissions as part of its longtime commitment to leave blue skies for our children.
