MMDA bent on pursuing raps vs taxi driver in shake-off case

March 10,2016

MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is bent on pursuing charges against the taxi driver who tried to shake off a traffic enforcer who ended up hanging on for his life on the vehicle’s hood in Quezon City on Monday.

Emerson Carlos, MMDA chair, said the charges would be filed against Ramon Talan, after he caused injuries to Ronald Perez who had only attempted to accost the taxi driver after he tried to maneuver his vehicle improperly through the traffic flow.

“We may file charges of physical injuries but that will depend on what our legal team will say,” Carlos said.

Carlos said he could not say yet when the charges would be filed as the police have been handling the case.

“But we have already expressed our intent to file the cases,” Carlos said.

Asked who were the other three MMDA enforcers with Perez at that time, Carlos referred the Philippine Daily Inquirer to Cris Saruca, head of the MMDA’s traffic unit.

Calls to Saruca, however, have remained unanswered so far.

Carlos said the incident was caught by an MMDA closed-circuit television camera in the area.  –Kristine Felisse Mangunay, SFM
