THE MANILA International Auto Show is among the most anticipated gathering of cars, car lovers and drivers in the country.
With over 500,000 visitors since 2005, nearly 200 participating companies from the automotive sector, 500 exhibitors and 400 car display units filling up the event’s 30,000 sqm exhibit area, one could easily get lost or be overwhelmed from all the spectacles on display.
Here’s a short guide on how to better appreciate the four-day event.
Plan ahead
Remember, this year’s MIAS will be held from April 7 to 10 (Thursday to Sunday) so you have four days to visit all the displays or be able to choose the best day that may be most convenient to your schedule.
We’re not saying you should plan your day(s) to the minute—that’s not fun for anyone—but keep in mind that there are dozens of attractions and that doesn’t even count shows, shops and restaurants. It’s a lot to manage, so it would be prudent to add a bit of structure to your visit.
Choose your parking well
While the World Trade Center (near CCP complex) in Pasay City has ample parking space, you might find yourself in a long queue as you enter or leave the event.
The next best option is to look for a nearby parking place such as the CCP parking lot in front of the World Trade Center, and just go on foot. If you intend to park along sidewalks or nearby vacant lots, think twice of leaving your beloved vehicle to some unknown individual.
Arrive early
Lines are shortest in the morning because, let’s face it, who wants to wake up that early? You should.
Get a the program of events
While the first day of the motor show will be devoted to unveilings (hence, a number of displays will still be under wraps until the afternoon), make sure you have a map or program of events so you would know where and when to proceed to witness the various presentations. Plan your visit
Since the venue is huge, try to make one quick pass to all the displays. This way, you would be able to glance which of the displays interest you most.
Then on your second pass, take time to appreciate each display area. Try to visit more than just once to begin with, and do so focusing on your personals tastes rather than the “highlights”.
Bring a camera
Since this event is indoor, your mobile phone camera might have a hard time adjusting to the lighting condition. The best option is to bring a camera, preferably one with a powerful flash. And make sure it has a strap that could be secured to your body.
Pack lightly
You’re planning for a day at MIAS, not a week in the mountain, so don’t bring more than you can comfortably sling over your shoulder.
Since this sort of event attracts hundreds of visitors don’t let a pickpocket, bag slasher or scammer spoil your trip to MIAS.
Getting a car loan?
Planning to buy a brand new car? Since the BPI Family Auto Loan is one of the event’s partners, drop by their booth to know their terms, know their attractive offers as these might only be available throughout the four-day event.
Don’t forget to test drive your prospective automobile or even compare it with other similar models.
Comfort trumps style
A visit to MIAS shouldn’t be a fashion show so wear your most comfortable outfit. Moreover, decide on a pair of shoes that you won’t regret eight hours later.
Haven for automotive accessories and gadgets
Since the MIAS has also invited exhibitors marketing automotive accessories and gadgets, take this opportunity to look around for special deals and interesting items that might make your ride unique if not perform much better.
