Honda is pulling out all stops for its all-new Civic sedan. The new car features a sporty new design and an available turbocharged VTEC engine. Honda hopes that the Civic can once again rocket to the top of the competitive compact sedan segment.

What is it?

The new Civic is the 10th generation of Honda’s most popular sedan. The new car comes packed with a host of convenience and driver-assist features, all wrapped up in a more dynamic-looking body shell.

Engine and transmission

The big news with the Civic is the availability of a turbocharged gasoline engine for the RS Turbo variant.

With a DOHC VTEC valve system, the new 1.5-liter turbo engine delivers 173 horsepower at 5500 revolutions per minute, and a healthy 216 Newton-meters of torque starting at 1700 rpm.

Other variants get the 1.8-liter normally aspirated VTEC engine with 141 HP and 171 Nm. Both engines are mated to a continuously variable transmission. The RS Turbo gets paddle shifters for the CVT.

Chassis

The Civic rides on MacPherson struts up front and multilink suspension at the rear. Steering uses variable-ration electric power assist. The combination bodes well for the Civic’s ride and handling combination.

Styling

Honda tags its new design with the Japanese-English phrase “Revolutionary Silhouette Advanced Neo Sedan.” The concept goes for a low, wide stance with sleek and swept-back character lines.

The Civic features a coupe-like appearance. The front features a glittering all-LED lighting unit including LED daytime running lights. The rear gets C-shaped taillights.

The Turbo RS variant gets RS Design 17-inch alloy wheels, gloss black front grille, wing-type trunk spoiler, chrome door handles, LED fog lamps and the RS emblem.

Interior

Honda continues with its “machine minimum, man maximum” interior objective. The Civic aims for a spacious front seats, with more leg and knee room.

At the center is a large full-color display with multi-information display including trip computer information. Steering wheel controls feature electrostatic finger-swipe operation.

The audio and entertainment systems are accessible via 7-inch display audio with touch-screen control and smartphone connectivity function. The RS Turbo gets a built-in navigation system.

Convenience features

The Civic has a Smart Key with remote engine start function. You can also start the air-conditioning from outside the vehicle.

The key also allows for Walk-Away Auto Lock function, with the vehicle automatically locking all doors when the smart key goes beyond a 2.5-meter range from the car.

Honda touts the safety features of the Civic, including the more rigid chassis and new body design. The Civic features driver and passenger airbags, with additional side and side curtain airbags for the RS Turbo.

There’s also available vehicle stability assist, hill start assist, antilock braking system, emergency stop signal and multiview reverse camera.

The Civic is equipped with Isofix anchor points for child seats, seat belt reminders and electric parking brake with automatic brake hold function.

the RS Turbo at P1.398 million. Civic comes in the following colors: Cosmic Blue Metallic (new color), Midnight Burgundy Pearl (new color), Lunar Silver Metallic, White Orchid Pearl, Rallye Red (RS Turbo only) and Modern Steel Metallic (1.8 E only).
