SINCE the start of classes at La Salle Green Hills in Mandaluyong City on Monday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has issued 34 tickets to drivers who parked their vehicles on the sidewalk.
A total of 15 vehicles which were left unattended for more than five minutes were also towed, the agency reported on Thursday.
“We want to show motorists that we are determined to continue this and it will not be a one-time thing,” MMDA Traffic Discipline Office head Cris Saruca said.
For the past weeks, the MMDA has been coordinating with officials of schools located on major thoroughfares as part of its efforts to ease traffic flow in Metro Manila.
It recently signed an agreement with Ateneo de Manila University for a shuttle bus service for high school students which is currently on a two-week trial run.
Beginning July 4, the MMDA will also implement a new traffic flow scheme on ADB Avenue and Poveda Street in the Ortigas area to prevent traffic buildup on Edsa due to students being dropped off or picked up at Saint Pedro Poveda College in Quezon City.
According to Saruca, 20 MMDA personnel and five tow trucks will be permanently deployed to Ortigas Avenue on a daily basis to ensure that the thoroughfare, particularly the area near La Salle Green Hills, will be free of obstructions. Maricar B. Brizuela
