Oh sure, there are tons of new cars coming out in all parts of the world, but we have to admit that not all cars can make it in the local market. Well, based on factors such as dealers, price tag and possible buyers, here are a couple of new, production cars that are already for sale in some parts of the world, which local dealers can look at and possibly sell here in the Philippines.
Alfa Romeo 156
Excellently styled, the Alfa Romeo 156 is the successor to the mildly favorite 155. The 156’s styling is from Pinnifarina, the same people who works with Ferraris. After not-so-good sales from the chunky 155, Alfa Romeo wanted something different. The product is the 156 which comes with a base 2.0-liter inline-4 engine or a top-of-the line 2.5-liter V6. In both cases, the 156 can hold out on its own against its chief rivals the Audi A4 and the BMW 3-series.
Mercedes Benz A-Class
Declared safe after the rolling over incident, the ‘new’ baby Benz whiffs up a sense of cuteness that cars here lack. The A-class comes standard with ESP (electronic stability program) and 15″ alloys. All in all, the top of the line A-class can be sold in the same price range as an Accord VTi-L and the lowest can be sold as the same with a Civic VTi. The question is…will Mercedes bring it here…don’t bet on it.
New Volkswagen Golf
Forget the new Volkswagen Beetle. It’s cramp and quite frankly its all cuteness without practicality. The New Volkswagen Golf on the other hand is different. Riding on the same platform as the Beetle, the Golf is practical, efficient and looks decent enough for a hatchback. Several versions are already available from a lowly 1.4-liter version to the hot GTi (2.0-liter) or even the V5 Golf 4Motion which has 4-wheel drive.
