MMDA tows Alma Moreno’s gov’t vehicle, SUV with ‘DU30’ plate

A government vehicle reportedly being used by former Parañaque Councilor Alma Moreno and a sport utility vehicle with a “DU30” license plate were among those towed by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Wednesday in its continuous campaign to rid the streets of illegally parked vehicles.

Traffic officer Roldan Aban, head of the MMDA’s anti-illegal parking and sidewalk clearing operations group, said that the silver Toyota Innova (SHL 954) parked in front of Bayview Tower on Roxas Boulevard in Parañaque City was towed at 7:30 a.m. after its driver did not come forward.

Bystanders in the area told them that the vehicle, allegedly used by Moreno, usually parked in the area despite it being a no-parking zone. Her son, Vandolph Quizon, won a seat in the city council in the May elections.

According to Aban, they have yet to confirm whether the government vehicle belonged to the former actress who ran for the Senate under the United Nationalist Alliance party of former Vice President Jejomar Binay.

Also towed from the same area was a black Ford Expedition sporting two plates: CTJ 207 and a “DU30” commemorative plate.

Aban said that their operation showed that violators, whatever camp they belonged to, would be treated the same way.

At press time, the MMDA has towed 19 vehicles illegally parked on Roxas Boulevard in Parañaque City and Circulo del Mundo in Barangay 183, Pasay City. The MMDA imposes a fine of P200 on owners of stalled vehicles and P500 on those who park in no-parking areas. – Jovic Yee
