A CHECKPOINT inspection early Friday morning in Las Piñas City ended in a “shootout” where two men on a motorcycle were killed by the police, who said the fatalities were later found to be carrying packets of “shabu.”
Joven Dabu, 27, and his still unidentified companion were flagged down by a team from the Las Piñas police’s Tactical Motorcycle Riders Unit (TMRU) around 3 a.m. on Naga Road because their motorbike had no license plate and both men were not wearing helmets, said Senior Supt. Jemar Modequillo, the city police chief.
But instead of stopping, the two men sped off, prompting police to chase them. When they reached C-5 Extension, one of the two victims allegedly pulled a gun and shot at the officers, who quickly retaliated, Modequillo said.
Dabu, who hailed from Nueva Ecija province, and his companion were killed on the spot, the official said. A .38-cal. revolver, .45-cal. pistol and six plastic sachets containing suspected shabu were recovered from the two men, he added. Annelle Tayao-Juego
