P2418 Uber ride from Makati to Megamall

uber-trafficThe traffic on Friday, even more horrible than usual, caused charges for ride-sharing app Uber to shoot up to the thousands. A former officer of Hinge-Inquirer publications shared that her ride from Makati to SM Megamall cost P2418. The ride of approximately 6km took four hours due to the massive traffic jam. Traffic was aggravated by heavy rain and flooded streets.

The usual charge for a that ride is P102 to P241, according to Uber’s estimate. Uber charges users a base fare, plus charges for distance and time.

Uber charges can go up when demand is higher, due to surge pricing. Uber says, “When many people are trying to request a ride at the same time, fares surge to ensure that you can request and receive the quick and convenient pickup you rely on.

“A variety of circumstances cause fares to surge. For example, heavy rain, local sports events, and holidays can contribute to a temporary increase in demand for rides that requires surge pricing.

The surge multiplier only applies to the base, time, and distance of your trip fare.”

Some trapped motorists and passengers were passing the time by playing games such as Pokemon Go. Being in a slow vehicle can allow passengers to collect characters and other items from designated game stops. Unfortunately, Internet service also bogged down Friday night, denying users access to navigation and information services, and the ability to catch virtual monster creatures.
