Pasig City starts experimental implementation of its odd-even scheme on major roads in the city on September 1.

Among the streets covered by the odd-even scheme are the following:

– Elisco Road westbound

– R. Jabson Street northbound

– Intersection of Elisco Road, M. Concepcion Street, and R. Jabson Street

– San Guillermo Street eastbound

– Sandoval Avenue northbound

The vehicles with plate numbers ending in an even number cannot pass those roads on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

While the vehicle plate numbers ending in odd numbers cannot pass the aforementioned roads on a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

According to the command center of Pasig City, the new scheme will be followed from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. Jeepneys, UV Express, School services and emergency vehicles only exempted.

The move has angered motorists especially the residents of the city traffic scheme in Pasig. For those driving to work from Monday to Friday, it means for instance that on Tuesday and Thursday they can only bring the car if their number plate ends in an even number.

Those motorists whose number plate ends in odd number can only use their car for three days in a week.

Motorists complained that the Traffic and Parking Management Office Pasig City did not give that enough alternate routes during the ban.

Critics of the scheme said that Pasig TMPO should instead focus on illegal parking on the streets and the undisciplined tricycle drivers which worsen traffic. –Dona Dominguez-Cargullo
