A car show requires months of preparation: exhibits to design, cars to import, and models to hire. That’s on the part of the organizers and exhibitors.
As a consumer, you can also maximize your car show visit with a little preparation:
- Visit websites to gather information. Automakers and the organizer will be posting information about their exhibits in the days and weeks before the show.
Find out if they will have special promos so you can check these out during the show.
The Philippine International Motor Show will have more information at www.campiauto.org/category/motorshows/ and www.facebook.com/
6thPIMS.
More information on PIMS will be on motioncars.inquirer.net.
- Know which cars will be launched during the show. The new models will be the focus of any auto show. If you are interested in these cars, find out their features and those of competing models. You can then see these for yourself during the show, and find out if they are indeed compelling.
If you have any must-have features, such as space for a bike or luggage, you can test these at the show.
- Research about financing. Auto shows will typically have banks and financing companies as exhibitors. Find out what your bank typically offers and you can do comparisons. You can use the information here to get the best
deal for your upcoming
purchase.
- Find out if there will be activities for the wife and kids. The typical family tends to split into two during a car show: those who can’t get enough of cars, and those who couldn’t care less.
If you want to enjoy yourself during the show, you should also find something for the second camp to do. There will usually be games, selling activities, and food. Manage their expectations too before making the trip.
- Bring a fully charged phone and power bank. In a typical auto show, there will be eye candy everywhere. You will be snapping photos left and right, so make sure you have enough free memory or an extra memory card. Bring a charged power bank, particularly if you are heavily into selfies and video games.
- Wear comfortable clothing. Car shows mean one thing: a lot of walking. The sprawling World Trade Center grounds can take several hours to cover properly. Make sure your shoes are up to it.
- Be on the lookout for accessories. It’s not only cars that will be at the show. There will also be deals on accessories, from cleaning products to wheels and tires.
If you’ve been planning an upgrade, now’s a good time to do it. In case the exhibitor can’t install during the show, you can make arrangements to do this after.
- Be mindful of your
belongings. Don’t wear or bring any expensive jewelry or bags to car shows. These tend to be quite crowded and no matter how tight security is, it’s always better to be on the safe side. Leave the bling to the show cars.
