Peugeot takes the performance road

PIMS-CAMPI-62PEUGEOT is now tapping into its motorsports heritage with the launch of its participation in the newest premier lifestyle motoring event, Targa Manila.

This is an exclusive, by invitation urban rally that focuses on precision and strategy. Twenty teams, which includes eight teams on board the Peugeot 208, will undertake a  test of speed, time and distance.

Peugeot Philippines put on display two custom built 208s in the 2016 Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS).

One was inspired by the Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak, which made its victorious debut at the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Combining a light body weight with a twin-turbo V6 engine, the Peugeot 208 T16 has a total power output of 887 hp.The second custom-built Peugeot 208 GTi is a participating vehicle in the 2016 Targa Manila.

“The Peugeot 208 T16 proves Peugeot’s dedication to motorsports excellence. It has shattered records and is regarded as one of the best rally cars to date,” said Glen Dasig, president of Peugeot Philippines. “In the span of more than three decades, we have produced some of the best rally and sports racing cars the industry has ever seen,” he added.

Competing in the Targa Manila are car enthusiasts Louie Ysmael, Elbert Cuenca, Martin Castro, Jules Chanco and Jen Rosendhal- Chanco. They will join the eight Peugeot teams, which include media competitors and personalities such as model Valerie Delos Santos, Paolo Paraiso and Ornussa Cadness.

The event will start at the Manila Polo Club and will end at the Brewery at the Fort. Each team must arrive at the different stages of the competition at a precise time. If they come earlier or later, they are given demerits. 

Different challenges await them at the stages, adding excitement and leveling the playing field.  The team with the most points will win a Fifty Thousand Pesos in cash, which will be given to a charity of their choice.

In 2011, Peugeot sold 2.114 million vehicles worldwide, accelerated its internationalization in large growing markets, and continued its move upmarket. The brand reaffirms its environmental commitment by implementting the eHDi Diesel micro-hybridization, and launching three full hybrid diesel Hybrid4 models in 2012.

Since formally opening in the Philippines in 2012, Peugeot has grown throughout the Philippines, and currently has nine dealerships nationwide.
