New fuel formulation from Chevron

TO MAKE the best possible fuel, you have to look at how the engine works from the inside out.

And the California-based engineers from Chevron claim they know the workings of modern internal combustion engines better than their counterparts from other oil companies.

They explain they’ve been to three countries, looking extensively at 30 different cars.

Their extensive research has translated to a fuel product that has been tested for up to 600,000 km in real-world driving by selected car fleets.

And on June 28 at Blue Leaf Filipinas in the City of Dreams in Pasay City, these engineers of Chevron, which owns the Caltex brand of fuels and service stations, held a press launch of their best fuel yet, formulated with the Clean & Glide Technology.

Chevron Asia Pacific’s product engineering manager Greg Engler explained to those in attendance the ability of the Clean & Glide formulation to protect metal surfaces, as shown in the High Frequency Reciprocating Rig (HFRR) laboratory tests.

Chevron stated that “the standard diesel lubricity test was modified to safely assess the lubricating properties of gasoline.

The results indicated that when compared to its predecessor (Caltex Silver with Techron) in a controlled environment, Caltex’s new formulation with Clean and Glide technology was able to reduce metal wear and friction by an average of 38 percent and 41 percent, respectively, using gasoline from around Asia Pacific and South Africa.”

Chevron pinpointed that this new product has been formulated to instantly reduce friction in the upper cylinder area of one’s engine.

It also claims that “with continued use, Clean & Glide will begin to build up in your car’s crankcase lubricant to replenish friction modifiers that are consumed during normal operation.

Separate laboratory tests simulating this build-up of Techron in the lubricant demonstrated the effectiveness of Clean & Glide technology to improve fuel efficiency by up to 3 percent, when compared to the previous formulation.”

Peter Morris, country chair of Chevron Philippines Inc (CPI), marketer of the Caltex brand of fuels and lubricants, said: “Our products are continuously being improved in anticipation of future engine technology and local market needs. The company has taken on board engineering expert Grant Imahara, formerly of Discovery Channel’s “Mythbusters” series, to demonstrate Clean & Glide’s various benefits. Imahara will be seen in Caltex TVCs soon.

Techron with Clean & Glide Technology is now available across all gasoline grades at Caltex service stations.

Motorists are advised to try Caltex Platinum with Techron, which has 50 percent more active ingredients of Clean & Glide technology “to make it faster-acting.”

Caltex Platinum with Techron is set to replace the Gold variant.
