After sensational wins at Le Mans, Nurburgring, Mexico and at the Circuit of the Americas, the Porsche LMP1 team headed into China with the objective of stamping their dominance over the rest of the field.
Mark Webber, Brenden Hartley, and Timo Bernhard grabbed pole on board the No. 1 Porsche 919 Hybrid, and drove to near perfection in dry conditions and with temperatures hovering around 23 degrees Celsius. The entire race tested the drivers and mechanics to the limit but in the end the No. 1 Porsche took the checkered flag to win the 6 hours of Shanghai. Its sister car driven by Neel Jani, Romain Dumas and Marc Leib finished just off the podium behind the Toyota and Audi. By finishing in first and fourth place, the Porsche Motorsport Team scored enough points to take the 2016 Manufacturer’s title even with the 6 Hours of Bahrain still remaining on the calendar.
Swiss watchmaker Chopard is the proud timing partner of Porsche Motorsport, and with its new offering, the Superfast Chrono Porsche 919 Black Edition Chronograph (limited 100 pieces), highlights Chopard’s continuing passion for Motorsports while staying true to the performance targets of Porsche Motorsports
Chopard’s Brand Ambassdaor, Mark Webber, after the race mentioned, “ Brendon was flying today and Timo’s double stint was really nice. I did a single stint and got some used tires out of the way before Brendon brought it home. It was an amazing day for Porsche and we are really happy to have contributed to it.”
Brendon Hartley, for his part said, “ What a day! The first corner after the start was interesting. I think the Toyota used a big package of energy from the e-motor and passed me quite easily into turn one. I knew he would suffer later in the lap, because the safety car came out. This was a good little battle on the first lap, and after that I just tried to keep it clean and handed the car over with an 18 second lead. I am very happy.”
