Just in time to reward those gearheads who have toiled for a lifetime this coming holiday season, Aston Martin Manila, the official distributor of the brand in the Philippines, has arguably the most beautiful car coming soon to fill that huge stocking hanging on your tree.
The gorgeous 2017 DB11, which replaces the DB9, is the most important car for the brand, and with it signals the new age of Aston Martin.
The C! Magazine team was able to run in the very first registered DB11 in Japan.
Joining the team was Aston Martin Manila Marketing manager Louie Karl Castillo together with Aston Martin Japan’s Shoichi Terashima, Hiromi Sakamoto and Michiyo Toyoda.
We also got to have a very candid yet expansive time with Simon Sproule, Gaydon (Aston Martin headquarters in the United Kingdom) Aston Martin director of Global Marketing Communications for a couple of days.
Along with the 600 hp DB11, we also got to test a healthy batch of the iconic brand’s current stable: the aggressive 568 hp V12 Vantage S, the elegant but sporty 4-door Rapide S coupé, and the exquisite normally aspirated V12 Vanquish—all of which are uniquely fabulous in their own special ways.
We were eventually joined by Aston Martin Japan car owners together with their lust-worthy cars as we got to drive to one of Japan’s most active volcanos, Mount Asama, which is a fairly scenic 240-kilometer four-hour drive northwest of Tokyo.
The completely built-from-a-clean-slate DB11 is also the result of the new synergy with Mercedes-Benz, which brings the brand to a whole different higher spectrum of technological and engineering brilliance.
The exhilarating DB11 has an astounding amount of firsts for the brand, from the all-new chassis, innovative aerodynamics, silky smooth 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox, Skyhook adaptive suspension and torque vectoring, to Aston Martin’s first 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 engine.
These components, combined with a myriad of standard equipment, create a supremely desirable high performance luxury coupé that seats four adults, and has the capability to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, and attain a top speed of over 320 km/h.
The DB11 is a cornucopia of superlatives. It generates a sensory extravaganza that lingers with you.
It is Aston Martin’s most feature-rich model ever. It is its most fuel efficient, most customizable, most comfortable and most opulent.
It has the most safety equipment measures for the brand, and is the most powerful DB production model in the company’s history.
Our pre-production test unit showcased most of the model’s deep abilities while simultaneously being Aston Martin’s most user-friendly ever.
I would like to suggest to potential buyers that they should think of the new DB11 as the car that the James Bond character would essentially dream of driving, since the last Aston Martin featured in the latest Bond film Spectre was the DB10 (which was designed by chief creative officer Marek Reichman, who also designed the sensual DB11) which was based on V8 Vantage components and was not a full production model. DB11 buyers should remember that Bond is a fantasy while the new car is a reality where they can create their own exciting and adventurous narratives to share with others.
In case the V12 might be too much for some, there will be in the near future a smaller 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine option developed with Mercedes-AMG.
The first Aston Martin DB11 units sold in the Philippines will be shod with Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires in case you really need to have that extra tether to the fictional British spy.
