The extension of the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) to Masinag in Antipolo City would be operational by early 2019 and cut travel time between Recto (Manila) and Masinag to about 40 minutes. The DOTr gave this assurance during the groundbreaking on Tuesday of the line’s Masinag and Emerald stations, which would serve as anchors for the P9.5 billion LRT-2 East Extension Project. The DM Consunji Inc. bagged the contract for the two stations which is set to start construction on June 6. Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade advised motorists that “the construction will cause a bit of traffic, but we should get this done.” —Miguel R. Camus
