A warehouse man and his teenage nephew were killed in Antipolo City on Wednesday evening after a trailer truck carrying metal scraps flipped over and crushed them.
The bodies of Bobby Pamilar, 38, and Kyle Pamilar, 17, were found hours after during a clearing operation as no one was apparently aware that they were under the heavy vehicle and its equally heavy cargo.
The victims, both residents of Exodus Ville in Angono, Rizal province, were on a motorcycle.
According to a police report, the victims were traveling on Ortigas Extension around 10 p.m. Wednesday when the driver of a trailer truck loaded with metal scraps lost control of his vehicle. It flipped over, spilling its cargo on the victims.
Ron Garcia of the Antipolo City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said the bodies were discovered only around 6 a.m. Thursday.
The truck driver, Jonathan Almeyda escaped after the accident and surrendered only the following day to the police. He claimed that he did not know there were people killed in the accident.
Almeyda is detained at the Antipolo police detention unit on charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property. -Jodee A. Agoncillo
