The class-defining Ford Ranger pick-up truck underscores its popularity in the highly competitive mid-size pickup truck segment across Asia Pacific, achieving record sales for the first half of 2017. Retail sales of the Ranger during the first six months rose more than 21 percent from the previous year to a record 63,525 vehicles.
This strong sales performance of the Ranger was driven by record half-year sales in Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Ford Ranger ranks as the number one best-selling pick-up truck in a number of markets including Vietnam, Taiwan, Cambodia and New Caledonia as well as the number one best-selling vehicle overall in New Zealand.
“Demand for Ford Ranger continues to rise as consumer needs evolve towards a versatile vehicle that can be used for both work and play,” said Mark Ovenden, vice president, marketing, sales and service, Ford Asia Pacific.
“The unmatched combination of smart technologies, design, fuel-efficiency and comfort of the Ranger represents everything that our customers look for in a versatile pick-up truck and we expect demand will continue to rise,” added Ovenden.
Australia leads Ranger sales volume in Asia Pacific, with sales for the first half of the year rising almost 19 percent to a record 21,638 vehicles, maintaining Ford’s leadership position in the 4×4 truck segment.
In New Zealand, Ranger continues to be its number one best-selling vehicle overall, pulling further away from the pack with sales in the first half of 2017 growing 24 percent to the highest retail sales volume of 4,980 vehicles.
Thailand saw the fastest sales growth for the Ranger with a 51 percent jump over the previous year with 20,230 vehicles sold in the first half of 2017, giving it a market share of 11.7 percent.
Growth has been driven in large part by demand across all Ranger variants.
In the Philippines, Ranger year-to-date sales increased by almost 16 percent to a record 4,596 vehicles, capturing 25 percent of the segment and making it the second best-selling pickup truck in the country.
To sustain momentum for the Ranger, Ford is offering a discounted all-in down payment or a low monthly payment scheme for its Ranger portfolio in celebration of the Truck Month.
Ranger continues to lead the truck segment in Vietnam for the fourth consecutive year with sales for the first-half of 2017 growing by almost two percent to a record volume of 6,985 vehicles, representing a segment share of nearly 57 percent.
In Taiwan, Ranger maintains its sales leadership in the pick-up truck segment with a 29 percent sales increase year-over-year, driven by customer demand for a vehicle that can be used for both work and recreational purposes.
Ford Ranger also maintained a strong leadership position in various emerging markets such as Cambodia and New Caledonia where it is the number one best-selling pick-up truck.
