The Volvo S90

Volvo’s S90 is the brand’s latest premium 4-door, 5-seat flagship sedan introduced locally last October. It is also built on Volvo’s new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) design program. Like its sibling the XC90 SUV, the S90 carries Volvo’s new design language, highlighted by the iconic Hammer of Thor LED headlights and the expressive tail lamps. The shape of the S90 takes styling cues from Volvo’s Concept Coupe.

Volvo has taken interior design cues from the success of its XC90 model and raised the bar with new details on the dashboard and instrument panel, including new air blades that stand vertically on each side of the Sensus user interface.

With Volvo Car’s recent US$11 billion investment, the Scandinavian icon car brand is putting a huge bet in charting its future and the direction of its future models. Volvo has been known for its excellence in road comfort and performance with class-leading features in safety. The bet seems to be taking fruit, as the car brand posted a 10.5% growth in the first half of 2016, thanks in part to the introduction of its second generation and all-new XC90 SUV model. This seems to be paying off for its passenger sedan sibling, the S90 as well.

Both the XC90 and S90 are powered by Volvo’s Drive-E powertrains, with petrol and diesel variants, as well as Volvo’s T8 Twin Engine, a petrol plug-in hybrid mated to an 8speed automatic transmission. Volvo’s T8 Twin Engine promised all the benefits of a high performance, low emission petrol engine with an electric motor that delivers power on demand with CO2 emissions at just 44 g/km, more than 45 km of pure electric range and a combined power output of around 410 hp.

Volvo now offers semi-autonomous drive with its Pilot Assist, which works up to 130 km/h on clearly marked roads.

True to Volvo’s philosophy on safety, its Intelli Safe system has both active and passive safety systems which both the XC90 and S90 possess. It also now offers semi-autonomous drive with its Pilot Assist, which works up to 130 km/h on clearly marked roads.
