Just to show how serious he is about one day colonizing Mars, Tesla and Space X founder Elon Musk recently teased his Instagram followers with an image of his upcoming space conquest.
Just in time for his scheduled presentation about the ambitious voyage, the tech millionaire shared an illustration of an interplanetary rocket sitting on the surface of the Moon, which he captioned “Moon Base Alpha.”
Dubbed as the “Interplanetary Transport System,” the rocket will be used to establish the first ever human presence on the lunar surface.
While other space programs such as those of Russia, China and the European Space Agency are targeting the moon as the possible location for colonization, Musk believes Mars is a much more viable option.
“We could conceivably go to our Moon, and I actually have nothing against going to the Moon, but I think it is challenging to become multi-planetary on the Moon because it is much smaller than a planet,” he said in a report by The Verge. -Khristian Ibarrola /ra
